Jolie's chilhood home

A former childhood home of Hollywood star Angelina Jolie has been listed for USD2.049 million, according to real-estate agent Richard Ellis of Ellis Sotheby’s International Realty. The Wall Street Journal noted that Jolie lived there as a child with her mother and brother, and attended elementary school in the area during the 1980s, well before becoming the famous actress she is today.

The property is situated over two acres on the rustic Woods Road in the rural enclave of Snedens Landing in Rockland County of New York, the newspaper added. The house has four-bedrooms, and the style is considered to be mid-century modern. The property measures an estimated 4,000 sqf. according to Ellis, who is listing the property with Brandon Wagner, who is also with Ellis Sotheby’s.

The house was built in 1950s and was purchased in 2014 by conductor and known house-flipper Eugene Kohn who said he paid about USD1.2 million for the house. After purchasing the property, he renovated it by replacing the fixtures as well as stripping the paint from the redwood paneling and pine ceiling to give it more of a natural look. “My style is to simplify and restore to the original condition,” he noted.

Snedens Landing is situated along the Hudson River about 40 kilometers north of Manhattan in New York. Artists and celebrities including comedian Bill Murray and Mikhail Baryshnikov have purchased homes in the region because of its privacy and proximity to New York City, according to Ellis.

Property records show that Marcheline Bertrand, Jolie’s mother, owned the house when the family lived there. Ellis, who specializes in Snedens Landing property, told the newspaper that residents in the neighborhood recall seeing the actress as a child when she lived there nearly 30 years ago.

Jolie was born in Los Angeles, but moved to Snedens Landing after her mother and father, actor Jon Voight, filed for divorce. Jolie and her family only stayed there for a short time before moving back to Los Angeles to start high school, according to The WSJ.
