If you have ever seen the movie Scarface then you are probably familiar with the “El Fureidis” mansion. Several key scenes in the movie, including the wedding scene, were filmed at the luxurious California estate. The property has been for sale since 2014 and was recently purchased for a fraction of its original asking price, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The newspaper added that the estate ended up selling for USD12.26 million, far less than the USD35 million seller Sergey Grishin, a Russian-born financier, originally asked for the property. Grishin purchased the mansion in 2008 for close to USD20 million.
The estate covers nearly 10-acres of land near the city of Montecito in California. It first hit the market in 2014 but did not receive any interest. The Wall Street Journal reported that the home was listed by Riskin Partners and Emily Kellenberger of Village Properties Realtors. Robert Riskin admitted the property was overpriced at first and claimed that the actual sales price reflects the value of the estate.
Pradeep Yohanne Gupta, CEO of private investment bank IQ Holdings, purchased the home. Gupta told the newspaper that he already owns a home in Montecito but was drawn to El Fureidis because of its history and architecture but necessarily because of its association with the movie ‘Scarface’. He added that he will use the home as his residence when staying on the West Coast and is planning to spend Christmas at the property.
The house boasts four-bedrooms and was designed and built in the early 20th century by architect Bertram Goodhue. Once inside the home it is easy to see the Roman and Middle Eastern influences throughout the design and the dining room features a barrel dome ceiling painted in opulent 24-karat gold leaf, The WSJ added. The property also features reflecting pools and Persian-style gardens and fountains.
