Siriraj Hospital announced plans to turn His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s room at the care centre into a museum. According to local media, the late Monarch’s room at hospital will display his contributions. Siriraj Hospital administrators are also hopping to build a statue of The King as part of the memorial.
The beloved King stayed at the hospital in recent years for treatment. He passed away peacefully at the age of 89 last week. Prof. Dr. Prasit Watanapa explained to the media that the hospital is planning to ask for the Royal Household Bureau’s permission to erect a statue of the King at the site in due time.
“We have an intention to keep everything His Majesty granted to our hospital and put it all in the museum,” Prof. Dr. Prasit stated. The doctor works for Mahidol University’s Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital.
He noted that the faculty, medical workers, other staff members and medical students continue to make merit in dedication to the late King. Staff at Siriraj Hospital also gave alms to 89 monks in remembrance of His Majesty. Additionally, the hospital continues to conduct prayers for the late King between 3pm and 4pm on Monday-Friday. Members of the public are welcome to join in the prayer ceremony.
The doctor said His Majesty the King received overwhelming love and respect from his people because he was dedicated to their well being. His reign spanned seven-decades and he was known for helping improve the quality of life for all Thais. Prof. Dr. Prasit encouraged all people to continue to embrace the King’s guidance and teachings.
“His passing of course brings grief to people. But we can repay His Majesty by heeding his advice and teaching. He would be delighted if after the mourning period, Thais love each other and help Thailand to prosper,” Prasit said to The Nation.
