Kata Group Resort Thailand is looking to bring in more guests to its properties and has set its sights on wooing more than 2,000 couples from China to tie the knot in Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi during the next three years, local media reported. Kata Group President Pramookpisit Achariyachai revealed the hospitality company signed an agreement with Travel Wedding (Beijing) to target the Chinese wedding market.

“Our goal is to host weddings for 2,000 couples within three years,” Pramookpisit said during a press conference. “Hopefully this will help increase wedding tourism in the future. Right now our target customer is the Chinese, which is our largest tourist group in Thailand and continues to grow.”

The campaign will introduce Chinese tourists to a series of wedding and honeymoon products at its hotels in Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi while promoting tourism in the region. Kata Group Resort properties include Kata Beach Resort and Spa, Beyond resort in Karon, Beyond Resort in Krabi and Phang Nga, and Beyond Resort at Khao Lak.

“We will have 36 packages that cover weddings, honeymoons and pre-wedding and family photos. We will also consult with the company (Travel Wedding Co) for marketing plans to make our products widely known among Chinese and provide easy access for our products to them,” Pramookpisit was quoted as saying by the Phuket News. “The Chinese market is the biggest tourism market in the world and it continues to show rapid and consistent growth. The Kata Group is proud to be working together with Travel Wedding Co and we look forward to understanding our target customer better.”

It’s estimated that nearly ten million couples get married in China each year with rising incomes allowing more Chinese residents to seek exotic destinations for their ceremonies or honeymoons. It is a concept that is particularly popular with the younger generation of Chinese couples.
