ICONSIAM, the massive riverfront multi-use complex, will expand by an additional five-rai after project organizers purchased land across from Charoennakon Road. The move increases total investment on the project to THB54 billion. Developers also presented a detailed look at how ICONSIAM will become one of the most talked about retail and entertainment mega-complexes in the world complete with its own seven wonders when it opens in 2017.
And while these wonders are designed to inspire awe among visitors, the project will also not forget about its roots. ICONSIAM will present a forward-looking Thainess for the world to see with more than a million stories of success and pride of Thai people from local to national level being presented.
“New developments normally highlight concepts inspired from other countries. But ICONSIAM is committed to presenting Thailand’s outstanding aspects such as Thai wisdom, exquisite craftsmanship, unique architectural elements, history, tradition, culture, etc,” Chadatip Chutrakul, director of ICONSIAM, explained in a press release. “It will also represent an imagination of this era that showcases those stories in many ways in a forward-looking Thainess or “Creative Thai” for the world to see. It will be the first time that such a large project in Thailand will present Thai characteristics in all aspects.”
The project will also feature two large retail complexes that will cater to visitors of all backgrounds. ICONSIAM will house the main retail and entertainment outlets and ICONLUXE will focus more on luxury. Two high-end condominiums, Magnolias Waterfront Residences at ICONSIAM and The Residences at Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, will also be part of the project.
