New Pantip Plaza

Pantip Plaza is putting the final touches on its expansive, THB300 million renovation and will resume full operations in early August, according to media reports. The popular electronics mall is hoping to take advantage of new trends to become more appealing to visitors.

Asset World Estate, the operator of Pantip Plaza, wanted to transform the mall so it would better connect with consumers and the emerging Internet of Things (IoT). As part of the new branding campaign, the complex will be known as the Tech Life Mall.

“The renovated mall will provide a variety of revolutionized electronic products in order to serve the rapid transformation for consumers moving to a digital lifestyle,” Sansern Na Patthalung, asset manager of Asset World Estate, told the Bangkok Post.

The mall has space to accommodate some 300 IT dealers who will occupy nearly 50 percent of the total space. The newspaper added that the rest of the display space has been set aside for gadgets, gaming, a co-working space for startup companies, enterprise solution products and restaurants. The developer also wants the mall to be 100 percent free of pirated materials

“We expect our renovated mall to attract more teenagers, and not just hardcore computer consumers like previously,” Sansern stated. “We expect the average time our customers spends in our mall to increase from 1.5 hours to 3.5 hours.”

The renovation should help the mall bring in more people with the company predicting the number of visitors to increase to 35,000 per day. The mall estimated that 20,000 people visited during the renovation period each day.
