Known for its infamous parties and risqué grotto, the renowned Playboy mansion has been sold for USD100 million according to multiple media reports. CNN Money pointed out that the selling price makes it the most expensive home ever sold in Los Angeles, but is well short of the USD200 million asking price.
However, the new buyer won’t have to go far to checkout his new place. It was purchased by Daren Metropoulos, co-owner of a US snack food company, who lives next door to the Playboy mansion. The two properties were originally one when the home was developed in the 1920s and Meropoulos intends to restore this configuration.
“For the last 45 years, Mr. Hefner has imbued the estate with a rich and storied legacy,” a Metropoulos said in a statement. “The property’s heritage is not only that of a famous address; it is a true masterpiece in design.”
The good news for Hugh Hefner, founder of Playboy Magazine and the home’s current tenant, is that he will continue to live in the mansion for the rest of his life. Now 90-years old, Hefner has lived in the mansion for more than four decades.
The exterior of the property features a Gothic Tudor design while the interior boasts seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a wine cellar, home theater, gym, tennis court and swimming pool. It also a zoo license and has been one of world’s most infamous places for 40 years.
Synonymous for its legendary parties attended by celebrities and Playboy models, the home was first put up for sale in January of this year, along with the entire company. Metropoulos announced a deal had been reached in June, but it wasn’t closed until this month.
With the sale, the Playboy Mansion is now the most expensive home sold in Los Angeles County according to public records obtained by the website Curbed. The previous record was $45 million spent on a beachfront home in Laguna Beach.
