Want to own the world’s most expensive house? It’s possible for anyone who has USD1.1 billion to spend. The property, which came onto the market in August, is situated in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, near Nice, an area known as the “billionaires playground”.
The billion dollar Villa Les Cèdres, was built around 1830 and was previously home to royalty with King Leopold II of Belgium owning the pricy property. These days the residence is owned by Suzanne Marnier-Lapostolle, a member of the Grand Marnier family. The family, which made its fortune in cognacs and liquers, has lived in the villa since the 1920s. The family decided they want a place that is a little smaller and are now willing to part with the estate.
The home boasts ten bedrooms, an Olympic size swimming pool, 35 acres of manicured lawns, concierge, a ballroom, stables for up to 30 horses and botanical gardens.
According to Forbes, the single most valuable part of the property is the botanical park, which is considered one of the most beautiful private gardens in Europe. There are 15 full time gardeners taking care of the greenery and the garden contains 20 greenhouses and features nearly 15,000 rare tropical plant species.
