Developers of Thailand’s 1st Halal Hotel Target New Segment

T.S. Family Group, opened Thailand’s first halal hotel, Al Meroz Hotel, last year and is looking to bring another first to the country. The company will invest THB 20 million to renovate a serviced apartment complex it owns in the Ramkhamhaeng area into a budget hotel that is 100 per cent halal, reports local media. The new property would target lower-income Muslim tourists.

There are a large number of low-income Muslim tourists from countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia and China who are looking for Halal accommodations when they visit Thailand. The hotel will be called Al Meroz Residence and it is due to be completed by the end of this year.

“Muslim FITs are demanding halal-friendly accommodation, so adding an affordable halal hotel to our portfolio will help our business grow,” says T.S. Family Group President and Chief Executive Rausak Mulsap, to the Bangkok Post.

An affordable hotel for Muslim independent travellers is expected to help the company reach its goal of becoming the leader among halal hotel operators in Thailand, says the Bangkok Post. T.S Family Group launched its 4-star Al Meroz Hotel last year, which caters to high-income Muslim tourists from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Brunei and other wealthy Muslim countries. That property, which is located in Bangkok’s Ramkhamhaeng area, cost THB 1 billion to build.

The new property is going to be located on Ramkhamhaeng Soi 5, a place that is considered to be outside of Bangkok’s main tourist centre. The company will invest more to develop a shopping mall and parking lot around its hotels as they look to make the surrounding area more appealing to tourists.

The number of tourists coming to Thailand continues to increase with more visitors from neighbouring countries with Muslim populations, such as Indonesia and Malaysia, having risen in the past few years. In addition to this, more guests from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran and other Middle Eastern countries are expected to come to Thailand over the coming years.
