Ananda Calls For Bangkok To Develop A Smart City

22 มี.ค. 2560

Ananda Development believes in the smart city concept and is hoping the Thai government can be persuaded to help construct one in Bangkok. The firm thinks it is a sound investment for the Kingdom and recently the company’s executives visited Kashiwanoha Smart City, the first smart city in Japan, to see how it works, reports local media.

“When should a project like this be born in Thailand? In 5 years, 10 years or 50 years? We may all be dead by then,” says Chanond Ruangkritya, Ananda CEO and President, in a recent press interview.

While the Thai government has not announced any plans to work on a smart city, it is something Ananda is serious about pursuing. The developer could possibly team up with its Japanese partner, Mitsui Fudosan, to bring a smart city in Thailand. Mitsui Fudosan is behind the development of the Kashiwanoha Smart City.

“I confirm with you that Ananda has the strength to do a project like this. And we have our big brother Mitsui Fudosan to help. We can almost copy and paste from their project. I hope we can be the first one in Thailand,” says Chanond.

One possible location for the smart city could be the State Railway of Thailand’s large land plot in the Makkasan area. The Ananda CEO also mentioned the Bangkok Port in the Klong Toei area as another potential location for a smart city project. At the moment, no private companies have a land plot large enough for the development of a smart city.

The concept behind a smart city is to create an urban area that integrates information, communications and digital technologies into people’s everyday lives. The end result is to eliminate the problems often faced by living in an urban area. South Korea, Singapore and Spain are among the countries to have already implemented the concept.
