Thai investor Kittisak Jampathip-phong, a major shareholder of Century 21 property brokerage, announced an agreement with solar-power company Yokohama Holdings to expand the use of solar-energy Thailand. The new joint venture will focus on bringing solar energy to industrial factories, hotels and resorts as well as bringing solar farms to Thailand, the companies announced in a press release.

The deal, while done solely by Kittisak, reflects Century 21’s commitment to the environment and bringing green and sustainable energy to Thailand. He wants Century 21 to be the leading real-estate business when it comes to energy conservation by offering alternatives to its trade partners and allies in property sales and marketing.

“We saw an opportunity in Thailand to get into the solar-rooftop and solar-farm business, as the government has supported a green campaign to reduce unnecessary energy consumption in households and use of alternative energy sources,” Takamichi Mastsuda, Chief Executive Office of Yokohama said in the press release.

He added that Thailand’s weather is suitable for creating solar energy, and he hopes that solar energy can help businesses across the nation save money and promote the use of clean energy.

Yokohama has experience working in Thailand prior to this deal being agreed upon. The company installed a solar-power system at a Toyota showroom in Prachin Buri and has started the designing the installation of rooftop solar panels at another Toyota showroom in the Kabin Buri district. Yokohama also has future projects with Japanese multinational corporations operating at the Rojana Industrial Park in the Ayutthaya province lined up.

The company is hoping to win a 10 percent share of the government agencies and agricultural cooperatives’ 600MW solar-farm scheme as well. The licenses for that are expected to be issued before the end of 2015.

Yokohama also hopes that with help from Century 21, solar energy can be expanded to housing projects in the near future.
