Buy a house, the wife comes free

free wife for buying house

A house in the Indonesian city of Yogyakarta has been listed for sale with one unusual extra – a free wife if the asking price is met.

The idea came from the real estate agent who is marketing the IDR999 million home. The owner, 40-year-old Wina Lia, told local media she was happy to go along with the idea.

The result for Wina – numerous media interviews. She told one newspaper she was “looking for a husband anyway.” As for the property itself, it is a single-storey house with two-bedrooms and two-bathrooms. The property listing was reported as saying: “Buy at the asking price and take the owner as your wife (terms and conditions apply)”.

Real estate agent Dian Purna Dirgantara, defended the marketing gimmick saying that any buyer wouldn’t necessarily have to marry Wina. Reports suggest he has received hundreds of calls since the property was listed for sale.

He told Time Magazine: “… If someone just wants the house, they can have that.”

In September 2014 a Thailand property developer was forced to issue an apology after a ‘Buy House, Get Free Wife’ advertisement for its latest housing estate in Nakhon Ratchasima sparked anger among social media users.
