Largest K-town retail center coming to Bangkok

Show DC, Thailand’s first retail and entertainment mega-complex, is scheduled to open in June of next year, developers Show DC Corporation announced in a press release. The complex will have 150,000 sqm. of gross floor area and will feature the largest “K-town” in world outside South Korea.

The press release added the mall aims to attract 100,000 visitors a day with return on investment expected to be reached within five years of the development opening. The complex is located on a 27-rai plot on Jaturathit Road near Royal City Avenue and 80 percent of the construction process has been completed.

The unique project hopes to bring a novel “shop and enjoy” retail concept to Bangkok. This idea combines entertainment facilities, retail space and food and beverage outlets. A state-of-the-art performance hall with a capacity of 5,000 and a 1,500 sports arena will also be found on-site.

“Visitors will be able to indulge in the best of shopping, eating and culture from Thailand and the region, with particular emphasis on trendy Korean offerings,” Chayaditt Hutanuwatra, chairman of Show DC Corp, said. “There is also a sensational 5,000sqm Fantasy Dreamscape cultural walk-through phenomenon called Himmapan Avatar, which will bring to life dazzling Thai legends through immersive 4D experiences using the most advanced light, sound and holographic technologies.”

Show DC has leased out 60 percent of available space with YG Entertainment, one of South Korea’s top star-maker entertainment companies, being an anchor tenant. The company is known for discovering global K-Pop sensations including Bigbang, Psy and 2NE1. YG Entertainment will also operate a huge K-Pop culture and entertainment park with bars and clubs for fun and relaxation, Chayaditt noted.

“As part of our emphasis on presenting the richness of Asia, Show DC has an expansive 10,000 sqm Asian Food Street that is dedicated exclusively to restaurants. Next to that, inside the K-Town will be large areas devoted to Korean fashion, Thailand’s most extensive offering of Korean beauty products and services, and celebrity food and beverage outlets, such as Psy’s Psy Ramen, and After Rain, inspired by global K-Pop sensation Rain,” he added.
