With plenty of malls found near Siam, the Sports Society is investing THB 300 million to create a shopping space in the area that is different from all the rest, reports local media. The group will establish a retail complex for sports enthusiasts called Stadium One near National Stadium and a short walk from the popular MBK shopping centre.
The retail centre will be located behind Supachalasai National Stadium on a 10-rai land plot and will connect the area with Chulalongkorn University’s Chamchuri Park. In order to gain approval for the project, the Sports Society had to receive a concession from Chulalongkorn University to construct and manage the development, reports The Nation.
The company hopes Stadium One is able to become the newest landmark in Bangkok and an area that brings sports lovers to it by having all kinds of sports equipment and products in one place, according to Pongwat Tiyapornchai, Manager of the Stadium One Project. In addition to the retail outlets, there will also be space for sporting activities with lockers, bathrooms and parking spaces all available once the development is finished.
Stadium One will be seen as a modern community mall and is being developed under the concept of “Stadium of Life”. There will be 120 shops covering 5,000 sq. metres of space in 2 specially branded sections. Nearly 40 per cent of the retail space in Stadium One has been booked and there is a belief that more space will be reserved once the company takes part in online marketing activities.
An estimated 90 per cent of the project’s income will be from rent while advertising is also expected to bring in revenue for Stadium One. There has been constant growth in the sales of health-related products and services in Thailand. Products in this segment has seen sales jump from THB 110 billion in 2012 to THB 160 billion in 2015, claims Pongwat to The Nation.
