ONYX Hospitality Group has long targeted the Pattaya market with several projects in the city and surrounding area. It will expand its operations in Pattaya after releasing plans to open a new 406-room OZO Hotel near its Amari Pattaya property, according to a company press release. The new hotel will be situated on a site next to the Ocean Tower at the Amari.
The group intends to invest THB 3.4 billion to redevelop its properties in North Pattaya. ONYX is also set to launch a new wing at the Amari, which will only feature suites. The new project will be located where the Garden Wing of Amari Pattaya was at. There are also plans to refurbish the 20-storey Amari Pattaya Ocean Tower along with the surrounding facilities as the property nears its 45th year in business.
“As we approach the 45th anniversary of Amari Pattaya, it is with great excitement that we embark on plans to enhance the guest experience at this flagship property, whilst introducing a brand-new OZO and an all-suites Amari property to accommodate the evolving needs of international travellers, regional visitors and local patrons,” says Douglas Martell, chief executive officer, Onyx Hospitality Group.
The entire project is scheduled to be completed by 2019 at which time the site will have 3 hotels with a total of 752 rooms. In addition to this, there will be a new state-of-the-art ballroom, several recreational facilities, new dining options, enhanced pool areas and re-landscaped gardens. The under construction Terminal 21 Pattaya shopping mall will be a 5-minute walk away from the revamped property.
ONYX will position OZO Pattaya as a mid-range hotel to compliment the Amari brand. The new property is being co-developed by Orion Hospitality, a joint venture between ONYX and Singapore Hospitality Holdings. The partners are also looking to expand the OZO and Shama brands in Southeast Asia and China.
