Located in the northeast corner of Bangkok is buzzing Huai Khwang. An offshoot of Rama 9, this locale has risen over the years thanks to the MRT making travel here a breeze. Its arrival ensured rapid growth drawing in residents wishing to make the most of the short and comfortable commuting times on offer here. Huai Khwang is just four stations to the central business district of Asoke, which is also where passengers can connect to the BTS Skytrain network above ground.

Dubbed a ‘wallet-friendly neighbourhood’ thanks to the lower price point, there is a lot of interest in this part of the capital. Average condominium prices are between THB 140,000 and 180,000 per square metre, considerably lower than other popular Bangkok destinations. Rents are between THB 400 and 500 per square metre for the same type of property, and just 300 per square metre for low rise accommodation that also boasts favourable capital values of between 95,000 and 125,000 per square metre.

Naturally, these more affordable prices add to the areas appeal and developers have already cottoned on to this heightened demand and new residences are popping up. Whilst 60 percent of the population are Thai, the remainder are mostly Chinese. The Chinese Embassy is based in Huai Khwang which partly explains this but is also as many Chinese are here to start up a business in the Kingdom.

This injection of international residents who live or are even tourists here, enjoy the 24/7 lifestyle that is on offer. There are local markets, the Huai Khwang night market and to top it Pracha Rat Bamphen Road. This 400-metre road is brimming with shops and restaurants geared towards Chinese tastes that have given Huai Khwang the accolade of being known as the new Chinatown.
