Manhattan Beaux-Arts townhouse owned by Keith Rubenstein

Want to own a residence in Manhattan that features designer leather walls and 14 bathrooms? For a little under USD85 million it can be yours. The Wall Street Journal reported that an elaborate Manhattan Beaux-Arts townhouse owned by real-estate developer Keith Rubenstein is going to be listed for USD84.5 million.

The Upper East Side house in New York City has six levels and a total area of almost 15,000 sqf Adam D. Modlin of Modlin Group told the newspaper that the property has six bedrooms and 14 bathrooms along with 2,500 sqf of outdoor space that includes a roof deck equipped with a kitchen, seating and dining areas, a bathroom and a rock garden.

It is the interior of the house that really turns heads however. There are handmade marquetry floors in the dining room that were inspired by a palace in St. Petersburg, the Wall Street Journal noted. The top level features a billiards room with walls upholstered in red Hermès leather to give it a unique look. There is also a media room, a bar and a smoking room equipped with a ventilation system.

His-and-hers bathrooms and dressing rooms can be found in the master bedroom along with a mirrored boudoir that has a fireplace and deep-soaking tub. The her’s dressing room has temperature-controlled storage making it an ideal place to keep fur coats. There is a wine cellar, a fitness room and a spa area with a massage room, sauna and plunge pool in the house as well.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Rubenstein, co-founder of the real-estate investment firm Somerset Partners, and his wife bought the home for USD35 million nine years ago and spent several years renovating it to their liking. Rubenstein remarked to the newspaper that they are selling the house because his youngest child will enter college soon and added that his family liked to move every now and then.
