MontAzure Kamala Beach

InterContinental is scheduled to open a new resort in Phuket on Kamala Beach, between Millionaire’s Mile and the Amanpuri headland, one of the island’s most popular destinations, after signing a management agreement with Proud Resort Phuket, Hospitality Net reported. The InterContinental Phuket Resort is going to be part of the MontAzure development and will be the brand’s first property on the island.

“Phuket has always been an important destination in Southeast Asia for IHG, with the island’s tourist arrivals recording double-digit year-on-year growth since 2011. We are glad to be able to work with our long-term partner Proud Resort Phuket, on what will be a key resort property for us in a prime destination in Thailand,” Alan Watts, chief operating officer AMEA, InterContinental Hotels Group said in a press release. “Guests can look forward to a luxurious stay at the new InterContinental Phuket Resort with exceptional service and standards that can be expected from InterContinental hotels and resorts.”

According to Hospitality Net, InterContinental Phuket Resort will have a number of private villas along with hotel rooms that offer unobstructed views of the Andaman Sea. Facilities will be created by award-winning designers and architects but no names have been announced as of yet. The resort will be the sixth IHG property in the Greater Phuket Area, and the group’s 19th hotel in Thailand.

“We are focused on creating destinations and neighborhoods through ‘visionary’ real estate projects with a presence across segments in hospitality, entertainment, residential and retail,” Pasu Liptapanlop, executive director of Proud Real Estate stated. “Following up on the success of our mixed-use developments in Bangkok and Hua Hin, including the InterContinental Resort Hua Hin, Proud Real Estate has envisioned a plan to replicate the mixed-use model in Phuket by developing the very first InterContinental Phuket Resort to cater to the growing number of luxury travelers to the region.”

The project aims to be a complete leisure destination with activities and facilities for both honeymooners and families. The property will have the ability to cater for weddings and meeting functions both inside the hotel and along the beach.
