Impact Exhibition and Convention Center is set to invest more than THB1 billion on projects that will improve current facilities and increase the number of entertainment venues. New projects include a theme park as well as a new entertainment center and it is hoped these will help the well-known MICE complex become a tourism hub as well.
The entire Impact facility has grown steadily over the past few years as it tried to keep pace with the rapidly evolving MICE industry in Thailand. However, in order to attract new events, keep those in attendance at current events entertained and draw in tourists who may otherwise not visit, Impact is now placing a focus on new facilities.
“We like to be more entertaining, so we embark on something different than our ordinary business: meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions. We branch out into a more tourism-focused market,” Paul Kanjanapas, managing director, said in a press release. “We are creating a new hub for tourism – a better venue for MICE visitors and their families. Usually when a business traveler makes a trip to convene aboard, they usually bring along children and spouse, and as long as we keep them busy and excited with heart pumping activities, we can generate more economic impact, vibrancy, jobs, and profits.”
Most of these new venues will be situated by a large lake near the convention center. Coming facilities include a marina, a new hotel and the recently unveiled Cocoon Entertainment Center. The latter is a four-story building that will boast a cinema, factory outlet stores and restaurants. Construction on the entertainment center will start in 2017 with the theme park and marina expected to break ground some time after that.
In addition to this, ibis hotel began construction in 2015 and should be open in Feburary of 2017. The property will feature 575 rooms and stand 18-stories tall. “With the completion of the above mentioned projects, Impact will evolve to become a MICE city offering MICE groups with a diversified range of event offerings with exciting leisure activities,” Loy Joon How, general manager, noted.
