Developers Looking To Bring Mini-Bangkok To Thai Capital

Siam Park Bangkok Co has set aside THB 3 billion to build a retail and entertainment project in Bangkok this year that will be a miniature version of the Thai capital, reports local media. The amusement and theme park operator is looking to expand its customer base and believes this project will help achieve that goal.

The Bangkok City project will have retail and entertainment space and is set to be built on a 70-rai land plot near the company’s Siam Park City amusement and water park. The project will look to reproduce smaller versions of Bangkok’s famous towns and trade districts including the popular Chinatown, Sampheng and Khlong Thom areas. The development will eventually hold 13 buildings and everything should be finished by 2020, according to The Bangkok Post.

In order to build the project, the company will demolish its head office and ticket sales area, which are both in front of Siam Park City’s entrance, sometime this year. The first building will be completed by 2019 with the remaining 12 coming online in the following months. Siam Park Bangkok Co is entering into retail and entertainment segment after having success as a theme park operator.

“With the Bangkok City project, we expect Siam Park will be another entertainment destination for locals and the 1st place foreigners visit upon arrival in Thailand, and perhaps the last before leaving,” says Noppagarn Luangamornlert, Deputy Managing Director at Siam Park Bangkok Co.

Nearly 85 per cent of guests coming to Siam Park City are Thai with the theme park also popular with guests from the Middle East, India, Russia, China, and Taiwan. Visitor numbers have been rising in the 1st quarter of 2017 when compared to 4th quarter figures. In particular, the company has seen a surge in teenage customers and the company has been holding events designed to draw in younger guests.
