While it is best known for its serviced residences, The Ascott Limited recently opened its first mixed-use development in Thailand. Somerset Ekamai has retail space, meeting facilities along with serviced residences and will help with the company’s expansion plans in the country.

Ascott, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore-based CapitaLand, has slowly been launching the development over the past 10 months. It first opened the corporate lease area and the meeting facilities at Somerset Ekamai in August of last year. It has finally opened the 130 serviced residences and 51 urban community rooms as well as the other facilities at the development meaning the project is complete.

The project is located near the Ekamai BTS Station with shopping malls such as Gateway Ekamai a short walk away. In addition to this, Somerset Ekamai is surrounded by recreational venues, restaurants, cafés, and bars to keep those staying at the property entertained.

Somerset Ekamai claims to have designed the mixed-use development with the goal of offering guests the comfort and convenience found at their home. There are a number of facilities found on-site including an automatic car parking tower, an outdoor swimming pool, a gymnasium, gardens, restaurants, spa, indoor & outdoor children’s play areas, and residents’ lounge.

The new mixed-used development will see Ascott add more than 180 units to its portfolio in Thailand and the company now has more than 3,000 rooms across the country. Ascott has been expanding aggressively in the country, launching new projects in Pattaya, Sri Racha and Bangkok that are all expected to open by the end of next year.

“As of the current plan, more properties are set to be opened in the next 18 months, with four properties already in the pipeline under the brands Citadines Jomtien Beach Pattaya, Citadines North Pattaya, Somerset Maison Asoke Bangkok, and Somerset Habourview Sri Racha,” says Jean Keijdener, Ascott’s Thailand General Manager, to The Nation.
