The central Bangkok location of Ploenchit-Chidlom has long been one of the city’s most exclusive addresses. This legend continues to grow as a number of high-end green buildings, such as condominiums, hotels, offices and shopping centres, having opened in the past few years with even more under construction and set to open in the next 2 to 3 years, reports local media.
More than THB 100 billion has been spent by developers who started building at a steady pace around 2013, results from a survey by The Nation show. Their aim was to create a luxury and green building hub in the centre of Bangkok. Many of the new and under conduction buildings have been designed under Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) concepts and with several earning certification from the US Green Building Council.
Sansiri’s 98 Wireless project along Wireless Road was the 1st condo building in Thailand to apply for a LEED Silver certificate while Park Venture, a mixed-use project by developer Univentures was the 1st office building in Thailand to receive LEED Platinum certification, according local media.
In addition to luxury condo and office projects, the Ploenchit-Chidlom area also has both luxury retail complexes and upscale hotels. The most notable of these is the Central Embassy shopping mall and Central Park Hyatt Hotel. Other luxury hotels in the area include The Okura at Park Venture, the Conrad Hotel, Grand Centre Point Wireless Road and Plaza Athenee Hotel.
And there are now plans for a high-end medical and wellness project in the Ploenchit-Chidlom area. Bangkok Hospital Group will invest over THB 2 billion to develop a medical and wellness facility, the BDMS Wellness Clinic. The company bought a 15-rai plot of land occupied by the Nai Lert Park Hotel for THB 12.8 billion last year with plans to build the new project at this location.
