The Asia Property Awards (Malaysia) is being held for the 4th time and 2017 will be the biggest awards event yet with more than 100 entries expected. In addition to this, the awards programme this year is introducing destination-focused categories to reflect the growing importance of Malaysia’s investment destinations and economic zones.
New categories have also been added this year. Best Mass Market Development (Landed) and Best Mass Market Development (Condo) will be awarded for the first time in 2017. Previous winners, including 2016 Best Developer (South East Asia) winner Sime Darby Property, are expected to participate in 2017. They will be competing against Malaysia’s niche developers and other up-and-coming players in the real estate sector.
The Asia Property Awards (Malaysia) are known for being credible, transparent, and free-to-enter. They look to reward the country’s property developers and projects located in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Ipoh, Melaka, Kota Kinabalu and Iskandar. The award categories will once again be divided into three sections, Developer, Development, and Design.
Prem Kumar, executive director of Jones Lang Wootton, returns as chairman of the judging panel. He believes the annual Asia Property Awards (Malaysia) presents an excellent opportunity for leaders of the industry to commit to a wider agenda of trendsetting, innovation and sustainability, at a time when the local property market undergoes further consolidation. Malaysia’s property market has seen muted or flat growth over the last two years.
“The Awards elevate the property sector in Malaysia in a way that they promote an international mindset by setting benchmarks comparable to other advanced economies and more mature markets,” says Kumar. “I would say that the culture of benchmarking is also significant as Malaysia aims to achieve a ‘developed nation’ status by year 2020.”
The awards organisers are welcoming nominations from Malaysian developers, real estate agents, architects, interior designers, construction companies, suppliers and the general public. Nominations can be submitted online at AsiaPropertyAwards.com/nominations/. The deadline for nominations is on 9 June 2017 while black-tie gala dinner is set to take place on 17 August 2017 at the InterContinental Kuala Lumpur.
