A real estate agent has been served with a two-year jail sentence for cheating 26 victims in a rental property scam.
Singapore real estate agent Goh Tzan En, aged 49, faced 27 charges of cheating involving S$91,474. One victim was a 59-year-old Singaporean who was made to believe that he had to pay an additional S$5,000 in order to purchase an HDB (Housing Development Board) public flat in the Jurong West area of the city-state.
A District Court heard the majority of those duped by Goh, who was working at the ERA Realty Real Estate Agency at the time, were foreigners who responded to his online advertisements for rental flats.
Goh admitted to nine counts of cheating, while the remaining 18 were taken into consideration by the court during sentencing.
