AP Thailand Plc has used innovations from Mitsubishi Estate Group, the company’s joint venture partner, at 11 condo projects in the past few years. The developer announced that it is going to keep using these innovations at its condo projects moving forward, reports local media.
There are 3 main innovations the developer was taught by Mitsubishi that will now be used at all of the condo projects it is set to launch next year. The 1st major innovation is the use of bathroom pods or prefabricated bathrooms. These can improve the quality assurance process while also reducing defects at condo units. Siam Steel International Plc is the company that produces bathroom pods for AP.
“Prefab bathrooms cost double that of conventional ones, but they have zero defects and can reduce construction time by 2 months. After we applied this process at some condo projects a few years ago and received good feedback from customers, we decided to use it at all future condo projects,” says AP Chief of Business Group for Condominiums, Vittakarn Chandavimol, to the Bangkok Post.
AP used the bathroom pod model for the 1st time at its Aspire Sathorn-Thapra development launched in 2014. Those pods were made from fibreglass, but AP decided to upgrade the material to tile for the projects after that. This was because customers felt it was more durable than the fibreglass option.
Bathroom pods have been used in 7 of its projects with 8,930 units using this technique. A total of 5 of these projects were part of the joint venture agreement with Mitsubishi.
The other innovations AP has been taught by Mitsubishi include space innovation and technology with the Internet of Things concept and 24/7 safety and convenience assurance. The convenience innovation involves the i-locker, a smart depository that is accessible 24/7 by both senders and recipients. The technology was 1st used at Rhythm Sukhumvit 42, and will now be installed at every new project launched by AP in the future.
