Fitness Outfitter To Open More Bangkok Stores

30 Jun 2017

Canterbury, a New Zealand-based fitness company, wants to keep expanding its operations in Thailand after opening another store in Bangkok, reports local media. The sport-clothing outfitter now has a total of 5 stores in Thailand and has grown quickly since it launched a flagship outlet in the Thai capital at the start of the year.

Canterbury is looking to capitalise on the increasing popularity of rugby as well as fitness in Thailand. Attitudes towards healthy living and exercise have changed in recent years with more Thais now exercising on a regular basis. In addition to this, rugby, Canterbury’s core business, is gaining popularity in Thailand with the Thai Rugby Union looking at ways to increase the number of participants.

“We have expanded our footprint here in response to the flourishing rugby, and fitness industry, and are proud to be able to play our part in advocating a healthy lifestyle,” says Mark Bennett, Managing Director, Silver Fern Holding Ltd., the exclusive distributor of Canterbury, to Retail News Asia.

The company recently opened its newest outlet at Go Sports Mega Bangna. It also has stores in Supersport at CentralWorld, Sports Mall at Emporium, the lifestyle section of EmQuartier and its flagship shop in the Phayathai Building.

Canterbury is best known for its rugby product line that includes all the needed products to play the game. The company also has a wide range of sport and casual wear designed to be practical and stylish. The company uses technology in its clothing designed to help regulate a person’s body temperature. This is something that can be useful to active people in tropical climates like Thailand.

“Eating right and exercising regularly is the core to any healthy lifestyle, but it is also essential that people wear the right sporting gear when they exercise, in order to train better and maximise performance,” says Bennett.
