Preparations For Royal Funeral To Be Ready In September

30 Jun 2017

All of the preparations for the Royal Funeral of His Majesty the late King Rama IX will be ready in September, according to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. It was noted that mini and full rehearsals for the funeral procession and other requirements are going to begin in July with everything else expect to be in place two months later.

The Royal Funeral for His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej will occur on October 25-29 with the cremation scheduled to take place on October 26. There will be a special public holiday on that day and the government confirmed this would be the only holiday. There had been some speculation that the entire week would be declared a holiday, but the Prime Minister refuted these claims.

Several issues have now been discussed and agreed upon after being brought up during the 2nd meeting of the funeral panel that was chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. It was pointed out by the government that His Majesty the King has already been notified on the progress of their work.

“The preparations for the Royal funeral have progressed about 60 to 90 per cent. All the things would be ready in September. All the works are very informative so the rehearsals would be in full function from next month,” says Prime Minister Prayut according to a report in The Nation.

Construction on temporary stands for mourners has begun at Sanam Luang as the government looks to make sure all of those grieving can be accommodated during the funeral proceedings. Several stages will also be set up at the Palace. An estimated 1,000 artists will participate in traditional performances in front of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s crematorium on October 26.

A total of 7,847,181 members of the public have paid their respects before the Royal Urn of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, according to Bureau of Royal Household. The Urn is located in the Grand Palace’s Dusit Maha Prasart Throne Hall
