Retail space in Bangkok’s shopping centres remained among
the cheapest in Asia-Pacific during Q3 2013, with only Jakarta and Manila
recording cheaper rates.
In its latest report, real estate ageny Jones Lang LaSalle noted that prices
for retail space in Bangkok were the equivalent of US$687 per sqm per annum – ranking
the Thai capital among the cheapest retail location in the region.
In its Retail Index third quarter report, the agency noted
that the strongest quarter-on-quarter growth in Southeast Asia was seen in
Kuala Lumpur, which continued to benefit from the entry of new-to-market brands
and a lack of supply. In contract Jakarta saw the biggest q-o-q slowdown as competition
intensified with the addition of new supply.
Prices for apace in average Bangkok shopping centres grew by
2 percent q-o-q and by 2.7 percent year-on-year.
Hong Kong, with prices of US$14,488 per sqm per annum,
ranked top in the region following by Sydney (US$7,180) and Melbourne
(US$5,737).
