Work at prime central Bangkok property developments is likely to be impacted by today’s protests by the People’s Democratic Reform Committee, led by Suthep Thaugsuban (pictured).
The group, which is aiming to force current Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to stand down, has identified seven main protest sites in the centre of the Thai capital, including intersections at Ratchaprasong (adjacent to Central World) and Asoke.
They have, however, insisted they will not interrupt mass transit services including the BTS skytrain system and the MRT network, although they have also threatened to blockade a number of government offices throughout the capital.
The Bangkok Post reported that eight blockades were already in place by 6.45am local time on Monday morning.
Many companies have asked their staff to work from home or have relocated to areas expected to be unaffected by the protest.
During the 2010 street protests construction at a number of central Bangkok property developments was halted for a number of weeks. A number of high-profile developments are located in areas which are expected to be impacted by the disruption.
Foreign embassies are currently advising their citizens in Bangkok to take extra care and avoid all protests, political gatherings and demonstrations.
The British Embassy also noted: “If you’re travelling to the airport, allow extra time to take account of possibletransport delays, and consider using the airport rail link.”
