TREBA touts Phuket agents to boost real estate industry standards

6 May 2014

The Bangkok-based Thai Real Estate Broker Association (TREBA) was in Phuket yesterday to launch a recruitment drive to sign up local real estate brokers in an effort to “unite all Thai brokers” and build the credibility of the industry.

Thamrong Tantiwirachakul, President of TREBA, told reporters: “Now, Phuket is a popular city and lots of tourist come here. The tourism economy grew by 14.73 percent last year. This has a knock-on effect for the property industry, too.

“TREBA’s main purpose is to provide training classes for property brokers, regular meetings to exchange information on different markets, to create a database of up-to-date marketing information, to give advice on property techniques and to support interpretations of the law that will make things easier for Thai brokers.”

Paithanan Chaiyachet, Secretary of the TREBA, added: “Currently we have about 50 members. All must register and follow the TREBA rules. Anyone who wants to join must undergo training and pass an examination.

Class will highlight ethics and test brokers for them. We will also teach ways to resolve conflicts that often arise between brokers and buyer.

Asked about the current state of the market, Paithanan said, “We know the market is not growing now and there are about 3,500 unsold homes in Phuket.

He said: “We will cooperate with the Phuket Real Estate Association (PREA) to gather and disseminate information; we are not profits from this. We believe that our credibility will help sales in Phuket to increase.

“There are 500 to 700 brokers in Phuket who are not registered with us. We will keep record on all brokers – members and otherwise – so that buyers can check their profiles.”

He added that a “real estate training school” will be conducted on May 16 at the Merlin Hotel in Phuket Town by AAA Exhibition & Training Co. Another session on May 24 and 25 at the A2 Resort on the bypass road will cover sales techniques.
