Despite dropping two places during August of the most-searched countries on a leading U.K.-based overseas property website,
Thailand remained by far the most popular destination for property searches throughout Southeast Asia. The kingdom ranked in 8th position during August with 3.29 percent of all searches for overseas property on TheMoveChannel.com.
Overseas interest in Thailand property surged during May despite the imposition of martial law and the subsequent coup. In its monthly Top of the Props report, property searches for Thailand property on the website increased markedly and saw the kingdom move to the sixth most popular country ranked by searches that month.
According to Dan Johnson, Director of the website, Thailand has been witnessing a steady turnaround in interest from overseas property buyers and investors. The kingdom accounted for 4.15 percent of all searches in May – up from 2.31 percent just one month earlier.
This year Thailand has hovered between 6th and 8th place, well ahead of The Philippines which is the next Southeast Asian country to appear in 24th position with 0.41 percent of the overall share of searches.
Elsewhere it was the U.S. that accounted for 1 in 10 enquiries on TheMoveChannel.com in August 2014, its 14th month in a row at the top of the Top of the Props chart. Nonetheless, despite America’s continued dominance of activity, its share of activity fell to a 22-month low.
U.S. property generated 10.38 percent of leads in August, significantly lower than the 27.26 percent generated in the same month last year and the lowest level since December 2011 (8.96 percent).
