Representatives from more than 42 countries across the world were in attendance at the Royal Cremation Ceremony at Sanam Luang on Thursday. This was the location of the ceremony where the 50 metre tall crematorium was located. Over 12 royals and senior officials of foreign governments arrived in Thailand on Wednesday joining the foreign representatives from 30 countries who had landed in the country earlier in the week, reports local media.
Their Majesties King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck of Bhutan were among the representatives of royal families and governments of foreign countries to arrive prior to the Royal Cremation Ceremony, says an official at the Foreign Ministry to The Nation.
The royal couple from Bhutan landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport with their son. They were received by Privy Councillor General Surayud Chulanont, who was serving as the representative of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn, and General Anantaphon Kanchanarat, Minister of Energy, who was acting a representative of the Thai government. Officials representing His Majesty The King and the government received all of the dignitaries who landed to attend the Royal Funeral of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej this week.
Among the foreign royals who attended the Royal Cremation Ceremony were Queen Sofia of Spain, their Majesties King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau’u of Tonga, Their Majesties King David Mohato Bereng Seeiso Letsie III and Queen Masenate Mohato Seeiso of Lesotho, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, and Prince Khalifa bin Salman al-Khalifa, who also serves as the Prime Minister of Bahrain.
Numerous government representatives joined them at the ceremony. This list included Vietnam’s Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, South Korea’s Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Park Joo-sun, Prime Minister of Swaziland Barnabas Sibusiso Dlamini, Alan Peter S. Cayetano, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines, US Secretary of Defence James Mattis, and Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Fikri Isik.
