Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts was very busy in 2016. It opened a number of projects in Thailand and worldwide last year and the company is looking to continue this momentum in 2017 with a new logo, a new CEO, and a focus on Swiss hospital at the core of its push.

The Switzerland-based global hospitality firm, which operates 83 hotels across the world, has deals for more than 13 new properties and now has 33 hotels in its pipeline. The new properties will add more than 9,000 extra keys to Mövenpick’s inventory between now and 2020 when all of the planned properties should be open and operational.

Thailand is among the company’s strongest markets with 3 new hotels scheduled to open in the country over the next 2 years. These properties are Mövenpick Residences Ekkamai Bangkok, which will open this year; Mövenpick Resort Khao Yai, also scheduled to open in 2017; and Mövenpick Resort Mai Khao, which should open in 2018.

Last year saw the 260-room Mövenpick Siam Hotel Pattaya on the popular Na Jomtien Beach open. The massive resort became the first 5-star property outside of Pattaya’s city centre.

In Asia, the company has signed on develop five new properties including its first property in Bangladesh, and Mövenpick Hotel Quang Binh in Vietnam in addition to the three properties in Thailand.

“We not only consolidated our position in key growth markets such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Thailand, where we are now a dominant player, but signed management agreements for properties in strategic locations where we will introduce the Mövenpick brand for the first time, in some cases, setting new hospitality standards that we believe will become an industry benchmark,” says Olivier Chavy, President and CEO, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts. “We start the year as we mean to go on, forging ahead with our ambitious development plans, building on our sustainability successes, and bringing our award-winning Swiss hospitality to new locations across the globe.”
