Thailand: An emerging opportunity for UK developers

EXCLUSIVE: Thailand has been labelled as an “emerging opportunity” for United Kingdom developers seeking to sell their projects to property buyers and investors in Southeast Asia.

CBRE, in its October 2012 Residential Market Review report produced from the company’s London office, noted that most Thai buyers are looking to spend more than £1 million, and that most are buying without financing.

The report also revealed that many Thais are buying for educational reasons as opposed to rental returns and capital appreciation which are considered to be the main drivers for buyers elsewhere in Southeast Asia.

Two-bedroom apartments in central locations are reported to be most popular with Thai buyers.

More U.K. developers have been looking at the Thai market in recent months, with Bangkok seeing a small but growing number of London-centric property exhibitions and marketing activities.

Andrew Batt, International Group Editor of PropertyGuru, said: “We can expect to see more developers from London and the United Kingdom as a whole targeting Thai buyers during 2013.”
