Yesterday’s helicopter crash in central London which killed two people and injured 12 involved a new development which had exhibited in Southeast Asia.
Fog is thought to have been a contributing to the accident which happened when a helicopter, attempting to land at the nearby Battersea heliport, was in collision with a crane being used to construct The Tower, One St George Wharf development. When completed the project will be the United Kingdom’s tallest residential building.
The project exhibited in Southeast Asia during late 2010 and early 2011, with exhibitions in Singapore, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. The developer, St George, is part of the Berkeley Homes group – a name very familiar with London property buyers and investors from across Southeast Asia.
The 180-metre, 50-storey mixed-use development was expected to include 215 apartments, as well as office and retail components. Marketing material obtained by DDproperty.com noted completion was expected later this year or early 2014.
In June 2011, believed to be the last time the development was showcased in Southeast Asia, prices for a two-bedroom apartment were upwards of THB70 million.
