Condo launches to drop 40%

10 Jun 2014

New condominium launches in Bangkok are expected to decline
by 23.5 percent this year, with the number in the first four month of the year
showing a 40 percent year-on-year drop.

Thailand’s Real Estate Information Center (REIC) noted that
last year was the first ever where the number of condominium launches in
Greater Bangkok outnumbered low-rise housing launches.

Samma Kitsin, Director-General of REIC, noted absorption
rates for condominiums was higher than low-rise projects as a direct result of
changing lifestyles as the capital’s mass-transit networks develop further.

REIC reported the largest number of remaining condo units
was in Nonthaburi’s Muang district (5,232 units) covering Rattanathibet and Kae
Rai, where the Bang Yai-Bang Sue Purple Line will start running by 2016.News
was Thanyaburi in Pathum Thani with 4,362 units, while the third-largest number
of remaining condominiums was in Bang Sue (2,827 units).
