Thailand Pays Final Respects To HM The Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej

His Majesty the King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun presided over the rites during the royal cremation ceremony for HM The Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. HM the King ascended the royal crematorium where he placed the funeral flowers. The Supreme Patriarch, senior monks, and royalty and foreign dignitaries followed.

Present and former prime ministers, representatives of all administrative, legislative and judicial branches, diplomats, and religious leaders based in Bangkok all took part in the royal cremation ceremony. The cremation ceremony took place after the ceremonial urn had been placed in the royal crematorium. Monks had provided a sermon before the ceremony at the Song Dhamma Throne Hall.

HM the King and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will return to the royal crematorium on Friday for a ceremony that will see the charred remains of the late King placed at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall inside the Grand Palace. On Thursday, a total of 3 royal processions, all attended by HM King Maha Vajiralongkorn, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and several other Royal Family members, were conducted.

Millions of Thais throughout the country and abroad paid final respects to the revered HM The Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. There were 85 replicas of the Royal Crematorium and various temples across Thailand where those unable to come to the Grand Palace were able make offerings of sandalwood flowers as parting tributes to the beloved late King. Meanwhile, several venues were arranged for Thais living overseas where they could place sandalwood flowers as tribute to King Rama IX.

HM The Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej reigned over Thailand for 7 decades before passing away on 13th October of last year. He worked tirelessly to improve the lives of his people and was known for reaching out to the people in all corners of the Kingdom during his reign.
