Thailand may not be the happiest place in the world, but living here isn’t so bad according to the results of the “World Happiness Report” which tracts happiness based on a question asked as part of the Gallup World Poll. Thailand was ranked as the 32nd happiest country in the world finishing between France and Taiwan in the poll.
According to the survey, Thailand is happier than several other more illustrious countries including Spain, South Korea, and Hong Kong. It is also one of the happiest countries in all of Asia ranking behind only Singapore, which finished in 26th place. Malaysia was the 3rd happiest country in Southeast Asia and 41st happiest in the world while the Philippines came in 71st of the 154 countries ranked as part of the survey. Cambodia was the least happy country in Southeast Asia at 128th spot while Myanmar finished in 113th place on the list.
Northern Europe dominated the list of happiest countries in the world. Norway finished in 1st place followed by Denmark and Iceland. Switzerland, Finland, the Netherlands, and Sweden all finished in the top 10. They were joined there by Canada and the Oceania duo of Australia and New Zealand.
The USA was in 14th place while the UK finished as the 19th happiest country in the world. The poll asked people in 150 countries to rate their lives on a scale of 0 to 10 — with 0 being the worst possible life and 10 being the best possible life. The answers of this question were then used to create the rating.
Many countries in Africa and the Middle East, two areas stricken by conflict and poverty, can be found towards the bottom of the list. The Central African Republic has the lowest happiness rate with Burundi and Tanzania slighty ahead of it. Syria and Rwanda rounded out the bottom 5 countries in terms of happiness.
