The Thai love affair with London property is nothing new

The latest rash of media reports over the weekend confirming Thai property buyers’ love affair with London will come as no surprise to readers of DDproperty.com.

In June we reported how Thai property buyers and investors were buying in the U.K. capital love never before, but unlike their regional compatriots who are starting to venture further from central London, Thai buyers are still very focus in the heart of the capital.

Robert Collins, Managing Director of Savills, the agency who are seemingly responsible for the vast majority of London property sales to Thai buyers, told DDproperty.com: “Thai buyers are buying London property because they want to use if themselves. It’s very fashionable to have a London property, and although some buyers may invest for their children who are studying there, the emotional attachment to the property will remain long after the youngsters have graduated.”

He also eluded to the fact that Thais take longer to make decisions. “It may take six months to make the decision or it may take one year, but it does eventually happen,” adding that cheaper properties lessen the time to sign on the dotted line.

Savills, no stranger to exhibiting London properties in Bangkok, is planning to showcase its latest offering, Fitzroy Place, in the Thai capital on October 26-28. Collins added this will be the most successful U.K. project to be exhibited in Thailand to date.
